Born June 25th, 1980 in San Diego, California Ivan Valencia also known as Kntajus or Kontains Jazz grew up listening to R&B and soul. At the Age of 9 he learned how to play the Saxophone where he would get his appreication for Jazz music. At around the same time he was being introduced by Family and Friends about the Culture of Hip-Hop. It wasn't until he heard De La Souls: Feet and Rising that he knew that Hip Hop was an something that he wanted to express to others. By the age of Thirteen he had 4years experience on his Saxophone, unfortunately he couldnt keep playing due to lack of funds. He decided that Hip-Hop was going to be his express himself thru a new avenue in the from of Freestyling. Known in his hood as Hip Hop Ivan and eventually known as Kntajus. In 99' he would take his artform into studios where he would record with friends, Joe Layao and DJ Tango, mostly for fun and always to represent the culture. In 2001 he went to Musician's Institute and got Cerified as a engineer along with this achievement he got himself 2 turntables and a SP 505. Since then he has taken his Recordings seriously both as an MC and Producer spending day after day crate digging and fine tuning his craft of beats and rhymes. After years of exploring music and understanding the history of hip-hop Kntajus was ready to make his attempt at making something of himself with his 2005 LP called Love The Music...Hate The Lyrics. Slowly making mark in the SD Hip-Hop Community 1 show at a time. It wasn't until he started RMXing the Crown City Rockers Earthtones songs that people and Crown City Rockers themselves started taking note on his musical potential. As a result Crown City Rockers has named BBoy RMX as on of there top 5 RMXs on there page www.crowncityrockers.com With the success that RMX Kntajus decided that and full RMX album was due as a result Kontains Jazztones was made as a limited 300 free promotion only CDs. It was only meant for friends only, but little did he know that those RMX's would reach a World Wide audiences, even thought by many as a LP and not a RMX album. At the same time Kntajus could no longer accept himself as just an MC but also as a producer, he took on the name of Kontains Jazz. When asked about this named he responded "Kontains Jazz is more of the evolution of Kntajus, as an artist and person we all grow in stages of our life and right now I can say that I have found my sound and feel Kontains Jazz, best represents myself." The Result of this is heard on Grape St. Blues self titled album. A mixture of Jazz and chopped drum samples that is the sound of the GSB's. Kontains Jazz is 1/3 of Grape St. Blues and 100% SP505 Crate Digger! You can catch Kontains Jazz representing at beat battles dropping and making noise with his boom bap, chopped and funky sounds. In the words of Kontains Jazz "So you want a beat for free/ well homie don't ask me/ this ain't charity I don't contribute to wackness/ diggin in the crates im glad you found madness!" What can I say I love music, not just hip-hop but like downtempo, trip-hip, soul music, punk, metal, jazz. music is music as long it part of your life. I got into music as fan and now as an artist.
